Arrival of hurricane season puts focus on carriers’ disaster preparedness plans

October 8, 2020

The 2020 Atlantic hurricane season to-date has produced 26 tropical or subtropical cyclones, 25 named storms, nine hurricanes and 3 major hurricanes. With 25 named storms makes 2020 the most active Atlantic hurricane season in 15 years, and the second most active on record.

Hurricane Delta – the fourth named storm since the National Hurricane Center was forced to dip into the Greek alphabet mid-last month – is currently expected to bend toward the U.S. Gulf Coast and reach land by Saturday morning. Warm waters in the Gulf of Mexico suggest Delta could make landfall somewhere between the coasts of Louisiana, Alabama or the Florida Panhandle as a Category 3 hurricane, affecting many of the areas that are currently still trying to get back on their feet from Hurricane Sally, which made landfall Sept. 11.

Houston-based Jetco Delivery went through hurricanes Ike and Harvey in recent years. Hurricane Harvey made landfall three times in August 2017, dumping annual average rainfall totals in less than a week on Houston and southeastern Texas.
