Cargo theft recording firm CargoNet received 150 cargo theft reports during the second quarter of 2019, a 14% decrease from the same period a year ago.
The average loss value per cargo theft was $152,844 for an estimated total of $22.9 million during the quarter.
The firm noted that a trend of trailer burglaries becoming the preferred method of cargo theft in the first quarter continued through the second quarter, along with a resurgence of fictitious pickup activity. Fictitious pickup thefts were reported in California, Ontario, Quebec and Florida in the second quarter, the firm says.
